This big buck appeared in the backyard last week. He gave me a look which in effect said ”What are you doing here?”

,,, it is an actual place. If you care to get a map of colorado and find Pueblo. Trail your finger westawrds along the Arkansas river. If you’ve got a good map you will find Wetmore. Well back up east a lttle that’s where we are. The mounytains that you see in the photos are the Wetmountains.

I’ve been watching the weather news where our sons and freinds live…..Snow Storms….Blizzards and White Outs. I just checked my weather station and so far we have 8.7″ of moisture here in the Big Empty. Of course we have haD blizzards and floods occasionally. But that really intesifies the event. When it happens out here it happens. How about 5″ of rain in 3 Hours.

This is the scene where I spent Several great hours sighting in my new Browning semi-automatic rifle. After several hours of fiddling with the rear sight and going through a box of ammunition I was finally able to hit the target. You can see it. It is the small circle on the fence in the distance. My next chore will be more fiddling in an attempt to come close to the bull’s eye. Years ago I was told that “close only counts in horshoes and hand grenades”. The heck with that !

….Was designed and made by wife from lumber in the barn shop. It is sitting on our front yard and will display seasonal flowers….I did give her a few tips though. Great job !!!!!!

High Speed Jerky

I hung a string of meat out at 8:30 this morning. This is what it looked like at 7:30 this evening. Completely dry. The temperature rose to 102….humidity 12%….and wind all make for speedy jerky.

My backyard yesterday. In the top photo the white flowers are “Mountain Daiseys”….the purple flowers are “Penstemmons”. In the bottom photo the brilliant red flowers are “Indian Painbrush”. All are native plants and grow wild.
